Well I got my new bike on the trainer this am. I guess techniquely it’s not new anymore, but I have only been on it once about 3 months ago. We rode for about 2 hours and there were 3 of us that needed to do a time trial as I missed it last week due to the marathon. This was new to me… E1,2 &3… French to me actually. Hopefully I’ll get a better handle on it in the future. The time trial was measured in avg and max watts??? Not sure what to do with that info. I know the coaches will explain it better next week. And the trainers do have a distance on them, so I don’t know how far we rode. That’s kind of a bummer.
My legs still feel a little tired, but they are relatively pain free. Except for my right heel. It’s still pretty sore. I had a visit with my Active Release MD on Thursday and apparently my gastroc is yanking on my achilles ligament which = soreness. Should be resolved in a few more days.
I have to say that my recovery from this marathon or long run has been great. I did something right. Now I just need to take 12 minutes off my time, which is totally doable.

I didn’t want to miss a swim, so I went out and took it easy… Well not really. I felt good. I got a hall pass from the coaches and I skipped the run. I rode the bike instead. I get the bike on the trainer on Saturday morning…
I love Dancing with the Stars… Just thought I’d mention that…

ANOTHER MARATHON IS IN THE BOOKS!
I met up with my friends that had talked me into this event on Friday evening. I almost missed my flight out of Calgary. I was five minutes late and the flight had closed, but the nice agent at Air Canada let me through. Not a really big deal as there was another flight 90 minutes later. But I made the flight. Then a harrowing ride in the shuttle through the streets of San Francisco to the hotel… I was on board with a paramedic from LA… After the shuttle driver ran a red in a 3 fed intersection I let out “oh no, we’re gonna die!” Even the medic got nervous, and he said, “I’ll work on you then you can work on me…” I said “sure” but thought what’s that matter if we’re both DEAD? Any way… Arrived at the hotel much later then I thought, but Shirli-Gene and Sheri met me and we caught up and then hit the sack.
Saturday was a day of Marathon events. The expo was called the “Exposique.” It was in a tent at Union Square and we were “pampered.” Manicure, massage, we could send post cards, and sampled some food. It was very, very busy and crowded. Only 20,000 of my closest girlfriends were there, with the odd male figure thrown in for fun. After the expo, I headed back to our room for a rest and then we all met up for our pasta supper. Sheri’s friends, Jackson and April joined us for supper. Then it was back to the hotel room for R&R and early to bed.
5am came fast. We woke, they showered, we ate and then headed to the start. The nice thing about destination events is the hotel location… We were 2 blocks from the start. That was brilliant. The pre-race bag check was smooth and then we waited. We were almost there too early… The national anthem was sung and we were off. Sheri and I started together and it took us 10 minutes to cross the start. It was crowded. We were dodging people, up and down on the curbs, in and out of runner traffic. We stayed together for about 20 minutes, but her pace was a bit too fast for me as she was running the half and I was doing the full. She asked, “So when do you think it’ll spread out?” I replied “about half way through your race.” Boy was I wrong; She was in heavy traffic her entire race. It spread out for me when we split from the halfers.
Unfortunately, I had heard Britney Spears on the TV before we headed out to the start. Womanizer played over and over and over in my head for the entire race, except for the bits of Michael Buble’s “I’m feeling Good”… cause I was! This was a hard course. Very hilly and windey. What an amazing event. 19000+ women and 999 men… This was a Team in Training Event, so there was a sea of purple. I wasn’t on a TNT team, but the energy at this race was crazy. And the sight was something else. Every shape, every size, every age… you name it, they were there. It was awesome!
I had the best race yet. After the marathon in Vancouver in May I could have cared less if I ever ran another marathon. It was a miserable event for me. But now, after doing San Francisco, I have already decided on my 1st marathon for 2009. The Calgary Stampede marathon is May 30th and I’ll be there. Then try and pick a destination for the fall.
This weekend seemed to come and go so fast. I’m sitting at the airport as I write this and I’m thinking… “It’s done!” Unreal.
I finished the weekend on a high. I got to spend great time with friends I haven’t seen in over a year as well as have supper with a friend who just moved here from LA that I haven’t seen in over 2 years and I got a PB in the marathon. Who could ask for more? Not me.
Until next time…
Oh yah… did I forget to mention the Finisher’s medal??? It was this beautiful silver necklace from Tiffany’s. It’s beautiful. Worth the trip.
